One of the UK’s first large-scale solar farms is set to be turned on this week.

Hendra Holiday Park, in Newquay, will be switching over to its new 10-acre solar farm, built adjacent to the park, on Friday (July 8).

The 1.15MW facility will provide more than 50% of the power to what is one of Cornwall’s biggest holiday facilities. The installation comprises 5,000 230W solar panels.

Hendra director Jon Hyatt said: “It’s always been a concern for Hendra that we operate the business in sustainable way, minimising the impact on the environment as much as possible. Making use of solar energy has been part of the parks sustainable business plan for some time and finally achieving it is a major milestone in Hendra’s history.”
