Tregarthen’s Hotel in St Mary’s on the Isles of Scilly opens for the new season today having completed its £400k redevelopment programme.

All bedrooms and bathrooms have been completely refurbished, while the lounge area has also been given a makeover.

Jeff Marston, chairman of Island Marketing, said: “Tourism is the biggest industry in the world, as well as the fastest growing, which results in more and more competition. That’s why it is great to see this level of investment to help ensure the Isles of Scilly continues to compete in the decades ahead.”

Hotel director Trevor Richards added: “Tregarthen’s was opened as the first hotel on Scilly 160 years ago, when Captain Tregarthen started taking paying guests across on his packet ship. We have sought to lead the market ever since and we are delighted that the ‘new look’ rooms now offer an even higher quality standard to our guests. We believe in building the local economy and we have used local Cornish suppliers wherever possible, including for building, decorating, furnishings, plumbing and interior design.”
