Isles of Scilly postal flower delivery business Scent from the Islands is to feature in ITV’s popular weekly magazine programme, Countrywise this week.

The show, which looks at the best of the British countryside, will be broadcast on ITV1 at 7.30pm on Thursday October 1.

This particular episode of Countrywise, which attracts around 3.5 million viewers weekly, will be presented by Paul Heiney from the Isles of Scilly to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the islands’ air transport link, Skybus. It will feature the award-winning Scent from the Islands, which relies heavily on Skybus to deliver its locally-grown scented Narcissi and Pinks.

Programme producer, Mike Talbot explained that Paul and the production team spent 24 hours on the islands shooting the items about Scilly and the links for the show.

They interviewed Andrew May, chairman of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, which runs Skybus, and also Zoe Julian who runs Scent from the Islands with her husband, Ben, whose parents founded the company over twenty years ago.

Talbot said: “We talked to Zoe about the challenges of running a mail-order business from the tiny off island of St Martin’s and their reliance on the plane to transport their scented bouquets of flowers around Britain.”

Zoe Julian said: “The Countrywise crew were impressed by the natural beauty of the islands. Paul Heiney was extremely charming and clearly understands countryside issues as well as being interested in them. They filmed all around the farm including the packing areas so we’re all looking forward to watching the programme when it’s broadcast this week.”
