The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) has organised a Tourism PR  event on Monday March 2, at Watergate Bay in Cornwall to highlight best practice and opportunities in what is hoped to be a successful year for UK tourism.

The event, which will take place from 18:00 on Monday March 2 at The Hotel, Watergate Bay will offer networking opportunities for marketing and PR professionals who are interested in, or who are working in, the tourism sector.  It will also offer industry insights and case studies from three leading tourism professionals.

‘Booming Marvellous – making the most of the tourism boom’ is intended to show the important role that PR plays in positioning destinations and tourism businesses.

Malcolm Bell, chief executive of South West Tourism will be offering an insight in to the overall changing face of tourism in the south west and the role PR has played in making the south west a desirable destination.  Malcolm will also be discussing future PR opportunities and challenges facing the industry.

Will Ashworth, director of The Hotel and Extreme Academy Watergate Bay and Simon Tregoning, managing director of specialist letting agency Classic Cottages will be joining Malcolm Bell.

Will Ashworth will be giving his views on the role PR has played in rebranding and raising the profile of The Hotel and Extreme Academy, while Simon Tregoning will discuss the need for both travel and business PR on a local and national level.

The event has been co-ordinated by the CIPR’s West of England Committee and organised by Shelley Fletcher, from Deborah Clark Associates.  “This event is a must for anyone working in the tourism industry interested in how PR can be used to generate buzz about your business,” said Shelley.  “It will also be a great opportunity for seasoned tourism marketing and PR professionals to share best practice, listen to industry case studies and get a feel for the year ahead from South West Tourism.”
