Fresh hope for helicopter link

There are fresh hopes today that the helicopter service to the Isles of Scilly might be saved after Tesco said it was dropping its legal action.

Service operator British International Helicopters (BIH) announced earlier this month that it was pulling out of the route in the face of Tesco’s opposition to the sale of its Penzance base to Sainsbury’s.

BIH insists that it needs the funds generated by the proposed sale to continue to operate the service and that delays caused by the judicial review would prove terminal.

Cornwall Council implored Tesco to reconsider its actions, which it now appears to have done.

However, it is not necessarily the end of the saga, as an application for a judicial review brought out by an individual still remains in place.
