Construction company Kier has teamed up with Love Newquay and Brandon Trust to kick-start the clean-up of town centre graffiti.

Volunteers from Kier, Brandon Trust and Love Newquay have picked up their rollers and tackled graffiti on the Tram Tracks area. They are encouraging business owners, landlords and members of the public to join them in their approach to cleaning up Newquay.

According to Safer Cornwall, quickly removing any graffiti from property works as a deterrent as well as a solution. Cornwall Council’s website says: “If they are left untouched graffiti can encourage more graffiti, rubbish dumping and anti-social behaviour.”

Mark Warren, Love Newquay/Newquay BID manager, said: “We hear a lot from both businesses and the public about the graffiti in Newquay. This isn’t only a local issue, its nationwide in towns. I believe that we are so passionate about this and if likeminded individuals want to tackle this we can get together and have that conversation.

“There are a lot more of us against graffiti than those doing it. If people are as passionate as we know people are we can tackle this and show a clear message that this isn’t welcome in our town. Anybody with a real desire to display their artistic skills, get in touch and we can point you in the right direction.”
