A new furniture company has launched in Cornwall.

From its workshop in Lewannick near Launceston, Burr & Knot specialises in using natural materials and traditional methods “with a twist”, producing a range of kitchen and dining tables, coffee and side tables, mirrors and home accessories.

The business was founded by James Anderson. With a background in fine art and sculpture, Anderson swapped London for Cornwall in 2020. Inspired by the dense woodland in Sussex where he grew up, he has been working with wood since a young age.

At the heart of every project is Anderson’s commitment to the environment. Moving to Cornwall he says he was struck with how barren the landscape was in comparison to the Sussex countryside where he grew up and he has made it his mission to learn about rewilding and aid efforts in fostering tree planting across the county.

“It was always really important for me to build a business that gave back more to the environment than we took,” he said. “We are investing in land to rewild and will continue to plant and grow a range of trees, meaning that when you choose a Burr & Knot piece, you are investing in the future.”
