BID Camborne and Camborne Town Council (CTC) are working in close partnership to ensure the safe reopening of businesses today (June 15).
An application has been submitted to Cornwall Council to help fund a range of measures that include installing two sanitiser stations, social distancing signage and pavement markings and employing a queue management warden. Dependent on whether or not they can be managed safely in accordance with pending Cornwall Council advice, temporary toilets are also being considered.
The Government has allocated £506k from the European Regional Development Fund to support high street re-openings in Cornwall.
“We are hoping to be awarded around £20-25k of that money, on the basis that the overall amount equates to £1 per head of population and small hamlets and villages won’t need safe high street re-opening provision,” said BID Camborne manager Anna Pascoe.
“It’s vital for people to feel protected and confident when they visit businesses in our town, and we will be regularly monitoring and reviewing arrangements to ensure that is happening in terms of both vehicle and pedestrian safety.
“We are also actively encouraging everyone to wear face coverings in shops. The last thing anyone wants is to see a spike in localised coronavirus infection as that will inevitably result in further lockdown and loss of livelihood. Observing public health guidelines is crucial and it seems increasingly evident that wearing masks or scarves helps reduce viral spread.”
In addition, the BID team have created a Camborne Cleanliness Charter that is being prominently displayed as a poster throughout the town. Advice is listed under three main headings – health, hygiene and helping others.
“It has never been more important to support our local businesses, whilst behaving responsibly, reducing risk and protecting our local community,” said Councillor Val Dalley, Camborne’s deputy mayor.
“We need people to buy goods and services locally to counteract the massive financial impact this pandemic has had and, to achieve that, the Town Council and the BID team are doing everything possible to make our town safe.”
