Small Business Saturday was launched in 2010 in the US as a reaction to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  This year, Black Friday falls on November 27 and Cyber Monday on November 30.  Small Business Saturday is a campaign to focus holiday shoppers back to small local businesses, away from the internet and high street giants.

Dave Halton, chairman of the Chamber, said: “The Chamber can play a role in promoting local businesses and highlighting their offers, goods and services to the local community.

“We are a voluntary organisation, so this year we decided to start small and publish details of local small businesses on a dedicated Facebook page.  We launched the page last week and will be running it up until December 5.

“The page is open to all local businesses, although we would be delighted if this also helped our membership to grow.  With more members we can hold more events and promotions such as these.”
