The team behind Truro’s celebrated City of Lights event, today launched its first crowdfunding campaign in an attempt to raise up to £3k towards the annual lantern festival.
Supporters of the event can now pledge for different donation packages and receive rewards in return – from theatre tickets to a brewery tour and voucher for the Tresanton Hotel – via the Crowdfunder website.
Now in its 18th year, the event on Wednesday, November 19 starting at 6.30pm, has become a key part of the city’s holiday calendar fostering festive spirit in the lead up to Christmas.
If the £2k target is reached on Crowdfunder, it is hoped charity Cornwall Community Foundation will matchfund up to a further £1k.
Clare Hearn, fundraiser for City of Lights, said: “This is the first time we have tried a Crowdfunder campaign, and we really need everyone’s financial support to help us sustain this incredible event.
“Tens of thousands of people attend the festival and procession but not everyone realises City of Lights is entirely not for profit and relies on sponsorship and donations.”
