Truro’s successful park and ride celebrates its third birthday tomorrow, with more than 1.3 million passengers having made use of the scheme.

Figures show that on average, the park and ride takes 1,000 cars off the roads in Truro every day, and the service has a 99% customer satisfaction rating. The operation reached the one million passenger mark in December 2010, 18 months ahead of schedule.

Graeme Hicks, Cornwall Council’s cabinet member for transportation and highways, said: “Park for Truro is a massive success story for the city and for Cornwall. The figures show that in the last financial year more than half a million people took the bus into the city rather than using their car.

“I’m very impressed with how well it has worked and we are looking forward to the Eastern park and ride which would allow people coming in from the other side of Truro to benefit from the same great service.”
