A new month-long festival has been announced for Newquay this autumn, celebrating the town’s creative spirit.
The Be Newquay Festival will run throughout the month of November, made up of activities and workshops showcasing the town’s vibrant way of life and unique culture.
Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and managed by Cornwall Council, the festival has been designed “with community at its heart”, with local organisations taking centre stage to produce a diverse programme that reflects Newquay’s identity.
The first wave of commissions to be announced as part of the programme include street art murals led by Slapdash Studio; light displays at Trenance Heritage Cottages and Garden Cafe; and a winter arts programme from ALMA Artspace CIC.
Louis Gardner, Cornwall Council cabinet portfolio holder for economy and local member for Newquay Central and Pentire, said: “It is great to add a new event for Newquay during the winter months, particularly one that celebrates the town’s unique culture.
“Newquay is an amazing place to live and work and boasts a buzzing creative sector. The Be Newquay festival will be a celebration for the local residents as well as an opportunity to share with wider audiences in Cornwall and beyond. We know from data that events drive footfall into town centres, and this festival will help breathe new life into the town centre.”
