Software development company, Headforwards, has partnered with Cornwall Council to offer two junior developers career progression of a different kind.

In a first for Cornwall, the successful candidates taking up the role of Junior BI DBA/SQL Developer and Junior BI Report Developer at Headforwards will have the opportunity to transition over to becoming a Cornwall Council employee after 12-18 months.

Toby Parkins, co-founder and director at Headforwards, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for two junior developers to hone their skills and gain official certifications and valuable industry experience at Headforwards, before transitioning over to our client and progressing a fantastic career in tech.”

At Headforwards, the developers will have access to the knowledge of nearly 100 industry experts, learn about Agile methodologies, build foundations for a long-term, well-paid career and become effective team members.

Parkins adds: “For Headforwards, this is a new and exciting way of harnessing the knowledge we’ve built over the last decade to help clients; and for two budding developers, it’s a chance to secure the first two steps on their tech career ladder.”

A recent report commissioned by CIoS Digital Skills Partnership states Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has the fastest growing tech sector in the south west, forecasted to grow 17.9% by 2026.

Parkins said: “Cornwall has a thriving tech industry, but we still have a significant skills gap.

“The average tech sector salary in Cornwall is twice the amount of the average wage here. A partnership of this kind is a great way to attract new talent locally and keep that talent in Cornwall by offering a well-paid, fruitful career.”
