In the week that saw £23.7 million Town Deal funding announced for Camborne, local MP and Cabinet Minister George Eustice met BID manager Anna Pascoe, Camborne Town Deal acting chair Val Dalley and members of the public at the weekly Camborne market.
The BID team had taken a stall to promote their ‘seven reasons to do business in Camborne’ campaign, specifically launched as the G7 summit got underway. Handouts were available to list the reasons, which include the town’s transport network, its comprehensive range of services, affordable accommodation, central location, blossoming enterprise, heritage and easy accessibility.
With lockdown restrictions eased at the beginning of May and the promise of millions of pounds of funding, Anna Pascoe said there was a strong sense of optimism amongst the business community.
“There are lots of people in the streets, our shops are thriving and new retail premises are opening which definitely bodes well.
“The announcement has created real excitement too. The eight projects given the go-ahead offer something for everyone – entertainment, healthy pursuits, good jobs and the chance to be creative. Camborne is being revitalised and that’s great news for a place that has earned its place in history and is now looking towards the future.”
Camborne Town Deal board has been working on the funding bid for more than a year.
Dalley added: “Being awarded £23.7 million to turn our dreams into reality is fantastic and a real opportunity for the town and community, bringing back a sense of pride in where we live.
“There is a focus on young people, with opportunities within the various projects to raise their aspirations in what they can achieve. I am really looking forward to the plans being a springboard to the town’s regeneration.
“Members of the board can be justly proud, after 18 months of hard work and many, many meetings to get to this point.”
As the local MP, George Eustice sat on the Town Deal board and similarly welcomed last week’s announcement.
“The success of Camborne’s Towns Fund Bid is a significant step forward in the regeneration of the town. Since I was first elected, I always made clear that economic regeneration in Camborne, Redruth and Hayle was my number one priority.
“This £23.7 million represents an exciting opportunity in the revitalisation of Camborne and a chance to make real and lasting difference to the town.”
