Camborne has been selected to bid for a £25 million cash injection through the Government’s Towns Fund Deal.
The Towns Fund, which was launched last November, will help towns to deliver economic growth with a focus on regeneration, improved transport, better broadband connectivity, skills and culture.
Local MP, George Eustice, said; “Camborne has a proud industrial heritage and I took great pride in being able to continue that tradition by working with my colleagues in Government to bring forward this significant investment opportunity for my home constituency.
“We have been very clear from the outset that the Towns Fund should be business-led and focused on generating a positive economic future for Camborne and I look forward to developing a secure future for the area along with my fellow Board members over the coming months.”
Cornwall Council has been acting as the ‘Lead Council’ as part of this process and has appointed an experienced local project manager, Chloe Lorraine, to work with the Camborne Town Deal Board to develop a Town Investment Plan, which will set out the vision for the projects the cash will fund.
Comprised of a team of individuals from the business, community and public sectors, Camborne’s Towns Fund Board has already started work and includes:

Anna Pascoe, chair of the Camborne Town Deal Board, spoke of her delight at Camborne’s selection for the Fund.
She said: “I’m thrilled to see the Government acknowledge the many years of hard work on the part of local people in making Camborne the friendly community which welcomes businesses and charities, locals and visitors to area with the announcement of this new fund.“
This funding bid focuses on what Camborne wants its future to look like and the board want to hear from as many members of the community as possible to shape the strategy. One of the board’s first priorities will be to ask local residents for their feedback through surveys and events.

It is great the Camborne has gained the funding, I hope that good use is made of it. Just two points, it says it will be business led, but with token representation for them on the board. Also, when will a town East of Truro get this level of support?
