The Government is abolishing its Business Growth Service (BGS), which includes the Manufacturing Advisory Service and the Growth Accelerator programme.

The cuts form part of the Government’s Spending Review, although the Chancellor made no mention during his speech to Parliament last week.

There was no indication either from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in its roundup of the Spending Review, commonly known as the ‘Blue Book’, which outlines the Chancellor’s plans in greater detail.

Instead, a statement was published on the BGS website, which read: “As part of the Spending Review settlement the Government has decided to wind down the national delivery of the Business Growth Service.”

It added that contracts entered into before yesterday (Nov 30) would be fulfilled, providing they are completed by March 31, 2016.

More to follow.
