The Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) recently visited Westminster to update MPs, Lords and other senior Government officials on the work higher education is doing to drive business growth and social inclusion in Cornwall.

At a reception hosted by George Eustice MP, speakers from business and recent graduates spoke about how higher education has helped their careers and companies.

Tom Podkolinski, of outdoor clothing company Finisterre, spoke of the impact on his business of drawing on the creativity of students at University College Falmouth, while Sarah Trethowan, of regulatory affairs specialist TRAC, talked of the huge benefit of being able to employ talented graduates through CUC’s graduate placement scheme, Unlocking Cornish Potential (UCP).

Professor Wendy Purcell, vice-chancellor and chief executive of Plymouth University, and chair of the CUC, commented: “We are very pleased that so many important guests found the time to come and join us to hear more about how higher education is driving business growth and social inclusion in Cornwall.”
