Investment to put businesses on the global map

A £2 million project which will help put businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly on the global map is to be launched following approval for more than £1.5 million of ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) Convergence investment.

The target for the three-year Globalisation Project, which will be run by Peninsula Enterprise, is to support 193 businesses with high growth potential in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to trade internationally. It will also be targetted at encouraging foreign business investment in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. 

The project will receive £1,545,652 from the ERDF Convergence Programme with the remaining £515,517 match funding coming from United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI). UKTI works with UK-based businesses to ensure their success in international markets.

 Adam Chambers, Chief Executive of Peninsula Enterprise, said: “We are pleased to have this opportunity to help Cornish businesses trade internationally. The programme is highly flexible which means it can be adapted over the three years to meet the ever changing needs of businesses.”

 Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: “This ERDF Convergence investment will support those businesses with the ambition and potential for international growth and create high quality jobs in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.”

Diana Mompoloki, Head of Convergence for the South West RDA, said: “The Globalisation Project is the latest in a range of business support products that are being made available to Cornish businesses by the RDA and its partners, with ERDF Convergence investment, to help them thrive and prosper.”

 The support to businesses will be offered in the form of:

•         Business Development Vouchers – up to £7,500 a year.

•         Support and aftercare for businesses involved in networks and clusters, with particular focus on renewable energy and environmental tachnologies.

•         Support for businesses to form joint ventures, partnerships and alliances to import and export good practice from national and international experience.

•         Offering a strategic overseas marketing and communications plan.
