At Feritech, we are thrilled to be launching our brand-new production facility this month! After a nine-month building project on our 3.5 acre site, we are set to throw open the doors and start the next exciting phase on our journey.

We believe the new facility will make a significant difference to the local economy as well as enable our own business to grow dramatically and realise our ambitions.

The new £3 million facility near Falmouth will offer a range of services rarely found together under one roof – everything from design, electronics and embedded software to machining, fabrication and 3D printing. Because such a wide range of services can be offered on one site, this paves the way for streamlined project management, improved quality control and faster turnaround of projects.

It is the only facility of its kind in the south west and it will enable trade to be retained in Cornwall, which would otherwise have gone to the Midlands or further afield. So, this is a valuable new investment for the area and great news for the wider local economy.

We are primarily a marine tech business and the new facility will help us to continue consolidating our position in that sector– partly through our own innovative product development and partly through working with other marine tech businesses on collaborative projects. The marine tech sector in Cornwall is really buzzing right now, with many businesses right at the cutting edge of innovation globally.

We are so excited to be part of this vibrant community, which is seizing the fast-growing opportunity of Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) in the Celtic Sea amongst other opportunities. FLOW is creating scope for tech innovation on an unprecedented scale in Cornwall. We are proud to be playing a leading role in this sector, rising to the many challenges that require inventive thinking and ingenuity.

But that’s not all.

As well as enabling us to make the most of the opportunities in FLOW and marine technology, our new manufacturing facility will also enable us to provide a brand-new service to inventors and product developers in a huge number of other fields. With such a wide range of manufacturing services on site, we can help product developers turn their ideas into reality and even project manage the whole new product development process for them.

Unlike many other manufacturers, we are happy to produce very small batches or even just a one-off prototype for research and testing.

This will help local inventors and product developers enable concepts to be turned into viable products. Here are just some of the ways we can help product developers and inventors:

Engineering design. We can solve problems and help turn your ideas into reality. Our in-house design team have a wealth of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic experience to meet all your design requirements. Using our state-of-the-art computer aided-design (CAD) tools, we can analyse structures, model concepts and produce detail designs and drawings for manufacture.

Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design and embedded software. We pride ourselves on the innovative nature of our in-house electronic services. We can design, rapid prototype and test PCBs for all custom requirements. We can also write, debug and test embedded software, control software and display interfaces to suit such systems.

Prototype design. Whether it is for proof-of concept, product testing or demonstration to potential investors, we draw on our decades of engineering know-how to help create breakthrough prototypes.

New product introduction. We offer a controlled manufacturing environment to debug and fine tune the manufacturing process.  This is a critical step and a low-cost solution to mitigate risk early.

Manufacturing. After the RD&I process is completed, Feritech can help customers move to full scale production, including production of small batches if required.

There has already been a great response to the launch of this new and much-needed service for product developers in Cornwall. Cornwall has a long tradition of innovation and this will help the next generation of local innovators commercialise their ideas faster and more efficiently.

To support our growth, we are increasing the number of staff we employ to three times the current level, creating new high value jobs in Cornwall. Right now, we are looking for machinists, fabricators and hydraulics engineers to join our vibrant team.

So, here’s to our fantastic new facility and here’s to helping enable Cornwall and the local economy to grow and flourish.
