St Austell Brewery has announced plans to open its first hotel in Truro.

The brewery will start work on a 33-bedroom lodge adjoining the County Arms, in September, with completion expected to be in time for Easter 2011.

Adam Luck, St Austell Brewery’s estate director, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for us and will give us our first hotel in the city of Truro, close to the headquarters of Cornwall Council and the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

“We have identified a shortage of quality, good value accommodation in the Truro area and this is a great opportunity to meet this demand with a new hotel linked to a well-established, popular pub.

“This is part of a long-term expansion strategy by the Brewery to add to our successful estate in Cornwall and Devon where we now have 176 of the region’s best pubs, inns and hotels.”
