A new working partnership to set up a vibrant and modern firm of accountants for the Newquay business community has been launched in the town.

Known as Harland Accountants Newquay, the joint venture between Harland Accountants, which has offices in St Austell, Falmouth and Liskeard; and Deborah Edwards of Headland Accounting, sees the creation of a new firm that will work with companies who want advice and support throughout the year as well as core accountancy services.

Edwards has already built up a solid client base in Newquay and the surrounding area and will manage the new office. She said: “What businesses really need is advice for the here and now plus future forecasting – reporting and accounts are vital for the taxman but aren’t particularly useful in helping your business move forward.

“The Harland Accountant Newquay joint venture will offer an even greater level of resources to help businesses grow and make the right decisions now, in real-time. Not learning about your mistakes until a year down the line is far too late.”

A victim of her own success, Edwards’ business became too busy for one person to manage and she was introduced to David Harland, managing director at Harland Accountants, through a mutual contact.

Harland said: “We are very excited about this venture as it offers exactly the kind of service modern accountants should provide, i.e. professional (we are all qualified accountants), energetic and focused on business growth. We also like to think of ourselves as relatively young, but that’s a matter of opinion of course!”

Edwards previously worked for Bishop Fleming in Truro and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2005 before setting up her own practice in 2007, having seen a gap in the market for accountants that offer ongoing support to their clients.
