Plans to build a large extension on a west Cornwall hotel have been given the go-ahead, just as the current owners celebrate their fourth year at the helm.

The Rose in Vale Country House Hotel in Mithian near St Agnes now has permission to build a function room, reception, lounge, public toilets, a beauty and activity area, steam room and sauna and an indoor swimming pool.

Owners James and Sara Evans proclaimed themselves delighted that improvements can go ahead to the Grade II listed building, which has seen a rolling programme of development since they bought the hotel in 2006.

“This extension will be a significant development not only for our staying guests but also for the local community,” said James Evans. “Since we took over the hotel four years ago, our visitor numbers have been steadily increasing and by providing additional facilities we hope to enhance their experience as well as increase occupancy. We are also extending the invitation to our local community to use the leisure facilities.”

The current owner’s accommodation will be demolished to make way for the extension, which will also incorporate a new flat for the owners as well as a bedroom for the hotel manager.
