Cornwall’s Duchy Hospital has announced that four new consultants are to join its team to meet the continuing growth in demand for both private and NHS treatments.

The Duchy Hospital is taking on the specialists in three key areas; urology, orthopaedics and ophthalmology.

They will be treating both in- and out- patients and providing a mixture of NHS and private consultations.

The four new consultants are ophthalmologist Ashish Patwardhan, orthopaedic surgeon Mike Butler and urologists Nicholas Munro and Christopher Blake.

The Duchy Hospital’s General Manager Chris Sealey commented: “We’re delighted to welcome these four extremely experienced and talented consultants on board. They will help provide extra capacity in key areas to provide patients with the best possible service.”

The consultants will help reduce the pressure on other local hospitals by treating patients who choose to be seen at the Duchy Hospital under the NHS’ Choose and Book programme.

The programme is designed to allow many patients to choose where, when and by whom they are seen.

The Choose and Book scheme is forecast to increase demand for hospitals which are renowned for their expertise in specific treatments.
