Rock-based Sharp’s Brewery has announced plans to quadruple production of Orchard Cider.

The brewery’s first ever cider, a result of collaboration with Cornish Orchards, will soon be distributed throughout the south west following a successful launch in Cornwall last year

Andy Atkinson of Cornish Orchards said: “We are delighted with the collaboration and success we’re enjoying with Sharp’s Brewery. As a result, 2010 will see the introduction of new equipment and expanded capacity – which represents major investment as well as creating new employment opportunities in the area.”

The Cornish businesses joined forces after a meeting of like minds at the Eden Project. Both realising there was a common ethos with sustainability, provenance and quality at the forefront of each other’s approach, Andy Atkinson and Joe Keohane of Sharp’s Brewery looked for an opportunity to work together and Orchard Cider was born.

Joe Keohane added: “Orchard Cider’s success has been remarkable and we’re very proud to again fly the flag for the best that Cornwall has to offer both in the south west and further afield”.

Meanwhile, Sharp’s has signed an exclusive deal with German brewer DL (Dinkelacker) Schwaben to distribute its range of products across the south west, including its premium imported pilsner, Meister Pils.
