A host of eco-conscience businesses and experts gathered at Exeter University’s Penryn campus yesterday (Apr 30) to attend the Spring Planet C Conference.
University of Exeter Evolve Futures business support programme and Cornwall Chamber of Commerce hosted the event for businesses of all shapes and sizes to discover how they could improve their environmental impact.
The conference consisted of speaker sessions and workshops looking at issues including Nature is Good for You and Good For Business, Net Zero and Pioneering Visual Technologies for a Greener Tomorrow.
Cerys Hartt and Cait Russell from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Hub attended the day as the ethos reflected the Good Growth Principles the Growth Hub works to.
Hartt, engagement specialist at Growth Hub, was particularly interested hearing from business owners about how they put the theory of sustainable into practice with practical solutions other business owners can learn from.
She said: “Attending Spring Planet C Conference was a great opportunity to learn more about how people can work to improve both the environment and their businesses.
“At the Growth Hub we strive to support businesses wanting to contribute to an eco-conscience community. We’re currently promoting a number of free workshops, for our support partners to help businesses with their carbon neutral and nature recovery goals.”
Environment themed workshops include:
- Greenwashing – How to communicate Sustainability effectively
- Innovation in the Wild: Cabilla Cornwall. Inspiring insights into the circular economy followed by an an overnight stay at Cornwall rainforest and beaver project location.
- The Innovation Exchange: The Green Future. Network and find out more on strategy, net zero and sustainability measures
- The Innovation Exchange: Boosting Biodiversity. How businesses can fight back and reverse the decline of plants and animals.
Hartt added: “It was great to see so many businesses in the county truly interested in helping to make Cornwall and the world a better place.”
The Growth Hub is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund as part of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme. The aim is to realise the potential of businesses in the region and to make the economy more resilient, more equal and more prosperous.
