Leading business support programme, Unlocking Potential, is hosting an event next week designed to help businesses understand and reduce their ‘invisible’ carbon footprint.

The workshop at FibreHub in Pool on September 23, is focused particularly on digital and service-based businesses keen to reduce their environmental impact.

They’ll be encouraged to go beyond their carbon footprint’s more familiar elements (like air-miles and packaging-reduction) and explore hidden impacts (their ‘digital footprint’) in more detail. This includes the environmental cost of – for example – our internet searches, the messages we send, routes we plan, payments we make, as well as website load times.

The event will be facilitated by Paul Atkinson from Greenworks, a specialist in sustainability, behaviour change, green economy transitions and stakeholder-engagement.

He said: “When we look at carbon footprints there’s often many misconceptions about what we should include, and the available information might be confusing.

“Subsequently certain emissions might be overlooked or not properly considered when making calculations or changes. We have therefore created this workshop to equip people with the knowledge and tools they need to take action in the right places and the areas that will have the most effect on their business.”
