Around 140 people from the south west and beyond have attended the launch of The Samphire Club – a new and exclusive social network for private sector businesses founded by self-styled logistics guru and people-connector, John Harvey.

The event was held at The Cornish Food Box in Truro where guests were treated to an Argentinian barbecue, canapes, wine and prosecco.

Daphne Skinnard, assistant editor at Radio Cornwall, gave an opening address before introducing a video specially created for the occasion by Chris Mugford and his team. John Harvey then took to the stage to explain more about the club and what it aims to achieve.

“We all know that people do business with people but, in order for that to happen, it’s very important to get out from our offices and meet – preferably in attractive surroundings over good food and drink,” said Harvey.

The Samphire Club is all about bringing interests, personalities and possibilities together in outstanding settings – not just in Cornwall but across the region and, just as importantly, London.”

All launch guests received a goody bag that included a bespoke Samphire Club magazine produced by Helston-based Gloss Magazines.

The club website was developed by digital marketing agency Philosophi, event organisers Hazel Parsons and Jenny Wren did the catering and beer and soft drinks were supplied by St Austell Brewery.

Other founding club partners are Anthony Greenwood, Cornwall Innovation, Cornish Pirates, IT West, Kingdom & Sparrow, Mining Searches UK, Rick Stein, St Austell Brewery, Stephens Scown, SBPR, The Greenbank Hotel and Total Produce.

Harvey added: “Getting the club established has been a team effort and I’m absolutely delighted that virtually everyone who was invited to the launch attended.

“Productive networking is essential to business success and I look forward to bringing people together in interesting venues in the months and years ahead.”
