Business leaders from across the south west gathered at Woodland Valley Farm, near Truro, earlier this week, to herald the launch of a new type of people and business empowerment programme, crafted by human resource company Sapience HR.

Led by Sue Hook, the team at Sapience is on a mission to “redefine human resources”.

Hook insists that recruiting the right staff, training and keeping them motivated, is a key priority for any business and crucial for ongoing success.

Sapience has developed ‘People Plus’ – an initiative designed to offer bespoke, “powerfully-proactive action-orientated”, people programmes.

Some of the companies already implementing powerful people strategies gathered together with the Sapience team to discuss and debate their most effective actions at the People Plus launch.

Leaders from such companies as Gasworld, the Penventon Hotels Group, Business Cornwall magazine, Trewithen Dairy, Mining Searches UK, PwC, Excess Energy Communications and Spiral took the opportunity to share and discuss their current people programmes with their peers over a locally-sourced Cornish lunch.

Discussions were interspersed with some intriguing tricks from James Maunder, from south west-based ‘Magic James’.

Hook commented: “The best companies in the world, the most successful, don’t simply define that success by profits and what the balance sheet tells them. They have so much more.

“They have that indefinable stamp of ‘magic’ running through their company veins. Everyone is on the same page. People love their work. They are self-motivated, driven, passionate about working there and about being part of the team. And as a result, they are high performing teams, all driving powerful profits with an extra spirited sense of togetherness and satisfaction.”
