Choirs from across the world descend upon Cornwall next month to take part in a festival which is set to boost the local economy to the tune of £1 million.

Some 70 choirs from as far afield as Canada, South Africa and Russia are due to take part in the Cornwall International Male Voice Choral Festival (April 29 – May 4).

And with more than 60 concerts and celebrations in 50 venues, entertaining more than 40,000 people, the event is the biggest event of its kind in Europe.

“Our seventh festival has attracted more interest than ever and this brings fantastic spin offs for the Cornish economy,” said festival chairman, Bruce Taylor.

“Just in terms of accommodation we have around 2,000 singers and their entourages placed in 15 hotels and holiday parks which is worth around £400k.

“They all want to eat well and have fun while they’re here – as well as creating their wonderful music for audiences right across the county – and that’s great news for anyone in the hospitality business.”
