The long-standing president of Redruth & District Chamber of Commerce is stepping down after 12 years in the post.

Mary Anson has decided to focus fully on her latest business, The Crossroads Care Home at Scorrier.

A registered nurse with an extensive background in long-term care, Anson and her husband operate a growing business offering a range of care sector services and expertise including residential care homes and consultancy services.

Although she will continue to be an active member of the chamber, the workload limits her time available for president’s duties. She said. “Running the chamber needs time and energy and I feel it is time to let someone else have a go.”

And that ‘somebody’ is no stranger to the workings of a chamber of commerce – former Cornwall Chamber chief executive, Richard Glover.

He feels that local networks have an important role in communicating a business voice. He said: “We are affiliated to the county chamber, which will give us a stake in national and regional decision-making.

“However our real role is providing a strong and distinctive local voice for our ‘patch’ and some useful support for members. We cover a wide area that incorporates industrial estates, beaches, retail and the latest developments at Pool. It is a big job and a hard act to follow, but I am looking forward to it.”
