Businesses in Devon and Cornwall are being encouraged to learn more about exporting opportunities at a series of free events being held during Export Week (November 12-16).

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) South West has teamed up with local partners and business organisations to inspire new exporters and provide practical advice for existing exporters.

The highlight of the week will be Exporting for Growth on Wednesday, November 14. The free event at the China Fleet Club in Saltash includes a rare opportunity to hear keynote speaker Sharron Davies MBE, Olympian, author and commentator at the London 2012 Olympics, talking about what it takes to succeed.

Exporting for Growth has been organised by Peninsula Enterprise in partnership with Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and Santander bank.

It will include a series of case studies and presentations covering a range of export-related topics, from developing an export strategy and finding new business, to the financial services available to help.

Kim Conchie, chief executive of Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, said: “Cornwall exports everything from organic clothing to geothermal expertise and it’s vital that local businesses are aware of the opportunities and support available to help them break into overseas markets. Cornwall enjoys an enhanced level of export support thanks to Convergence and UKTI funding so we are urging our members to attend Exporting for Growth and find out more.”

Peninsula Enterprise is also staging its regular Exporting Essentials one-day course during Export Week, including the top 10 export essentials for any business trading overseas.

The free courses take place on November 12 at the Pool Innovation Centre, and on November 16 at Tamar Science Park in Plymouth.
