Last week’s Institute of Directors event hit record numbers – equalling those of Bristol or London attendances.

The IoD@6 events have been running nationally for several years but were only introduced to Cornwall in May 2009. Hosted jointly by Stephens Scown at its Truro offices and the Convergence Partnership Office, the event saw 75 turn up including directors of some of Cornwall’s top businesses.

Mark Stubbs, Stephens Scown partner said: “Attendee numbers have excelled our expectations and tonight has given everyone the opportunity of getting together and to continue to look to Cornwall’s future.”

Carleen Kelemen, recently appointed vice chair of the Devon and Cornwall IoD and director of the Convergence Partnership Office, added: “This is a phenomenal turnout. This reflects the passion and energy of our leading businesses and professionals in working together to share experiences and address the issues being faced for Cornwall’s economy.”

Sam Lockyer of Midas Construction said: “Despite the recent economic situation there are some excellent business opportunities within the public and private sectors in Cornwall right now, particularly in the leisure and tourism industry, confidence is high.”

The next IoD@6 event in Cornwall will be hosted at Watson Marlow’s Falmouth base in May.
