A local software development agency has taken the next step to improve female representation within the tech industry.

Pool-based Thought Quarter announced today – International Women’s Day – that it has become majority female owned.

The agency, which recently celebrated its ninth year in business, has experienced significant growth since the pandemic and believes now is the right time to make this change to its company structure.

MD Sam Armondi said: “As individuals, we all need to take positive action which is why I’m delighted that Allanah has taken majority ownership. I believe this is a clear statement of intent that shows we’re not just passionate about equality in the industry, but we’re committed to making the changes needed, too.”

The percentage of women in a director role within the tech industry is said to be low and this trend of gender imbalance continues throughout the sector, with women making up just 26% of tech workers according to a study by Tech Nation.

“Providing a diverse and inclusive workplace is a non-negotiable for us,” added people and culture director Allanah Armondi.

“Already, 43% of our workforce is female but real equity is about much more than statistics. By paying our team fairly, providing progression opportunities and offering as much flexibility as we can, we’re helping the careers of not just our employees, but their partners and family members too.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to lead Thought Quarter as we do even more to provide great opportunities for everyone.”
