Falmouth University’s creative tech cohorts and gaming fans in the Duchy are revving up for the biggest Global Games Jam weekend yet.
Following the growing success of recent years, the university’s Games Academy is set to welcome over 140 gamers, developers and game artists at this weekend’s event.
A ‘game jam’ is essentially a hackathon focused on game development and The Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world’s largest game creation event, taking place in towns and cities all over the globe.
Games Jam events centre around the idea of gathering together, being creative, sharing experiences and expressing yourself in a multitude of ways using video games. The weekend creates a global creative buzz in games, while at the same time exploring the process of development, whether it’s programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression.
The event is condensed into a 48-hour development cycle and the event encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate. Falmouth University’s Games Academy will once again be opening their doors to those in the region with a keen interest in gaming and is encouraging individuals and groups of friends to participate.
Individuals will be supported to join teams on the Friday of the event, and all are welcome. Bookings for a spot can be accepted right up until 5.30pm on Friday.
Games Academy technician and co-organiser, Ethan Bradley, said: “We’re excited to be hosting a Global Game Jam event once again at the Games Academy for 2023! This year, as always, we are welcoming all jammers from novice to veteran to come join us in the warehouse from Friday to Sunday.
“Attendees will have access to our suite of over 300 PCs equipped with all the essential software and tools needed to make games, including Unity, Unreal Engine, ZBrush, Maya, full Adobe creative cloud suite and more. It will be a great weekend and a chance for everyone to meet, team up and collaborate on making games in a space and setting that is designed for game development.”
