Two Cornish companies have collaborated to develop a pioneering application for the iPhone and iPad, designed to help other businesses improve their marketing.

Redruth-based Boosters Ltd and Black Cat, based near Truro, claim to have been the first companies in the world to develop the software, beating their nearest competitor to the global title by just a few days.

The free application, known simply as “Boosters” provides a quick and easy route for companies to choose and buy promotional gifts such as pens, keyrings, mugs and coasters and thousands of similar items.

The app allows iPhone and iPad users the ability to check products on the move, displaying them clearly on the devices’ screen.

Black Cat’s managing director Tim Bowcock explained: “We wanted to create an application that was simple for users, but adequately showed Boosters’ extensive product range. That required complex coding to quickly query their database, alongside bespoke programming to display the results to users. It’s been a demanding task, but fulfilling to be the first in the world to produce this kind of application.”

Boosters’ MD Blair Carroll added: “We think this will be an indispensable tool for marketers and our decision to go down this road was justified by a major competitor’s decision to emulate this app, just days later.”
