St Austell Brewery is fully embracing the digital age and has become the first regional brewer in the UK to launch its own iphone application.

Applications, commonly known as apps, are programmes downloaded onto mobile phones with entertainment or practical functions, such as games, fitness, business, news and travel. Ten billion apps had been sold worldwide by January 2011.

The free St Austell Brewery ‘In My Pocket’ app provides smartphone users with a range of features – including a search facility and guide to all St Austell Brewery pubs, hotels and inns as well as to the brewery’s range of beers. The app also enables customers to buy their favourite bottled beers online for home delivery.

Jeremy Mitchell, director of marketing at St Austell Brewery, said: “We are very excited to be one of the first branching into this world of technology.

“More and more pub customers are already using smartphones and the St Austell Brewery in My Pocket app will be a fun way for local people to keep in touch with us and with their favourite pubs while also providing a valuable facility for visitors to the area.”

The app is only available to iphone users at present but will be available to all smartphones within the next two weeks.
