Newquay-based leisure and tourism consultancy Flamingo Marketing celebrates its 13th birthday next month.

During that time, the company has established a hugely varied and incredibly loyal client base, which has been retained despite two years of massive uncertainty in the industry due to the coronavirus.

MD Nikki Smith said: “It has been an incredibly difficult and challenging time for all businesses, however visitor attractions, tourism and hospitality were particularly affected and in many cases had to remain closed for extended periods.

“Given our long-standing relationships with clients, we were able to work with them to find a way through some seriously choppy waters and with summer now almost upon us, we look forward to supporting them during what promises to be a much more prosperous period.”

Since launching Flamingo back in 2009, Nikki’s overriding goal has been to offer no-nonsense, hands-on, practical support for clients, backed up by her extensive depth of knowledge in the industry.

Her career had begun in marketing roles with Merlin Entertainments. She later created the Blue Reef Aquarium brand from its conception in Newquay and was marketing director of Blue Reef Leisure from 2001 to 2007.

Prior to launching Flamingo Marketing, Nikki was also in charge of marketing for the leading leisure company Aspro UK.

A clear understanding and in-depth personal experience of the marketplace has seen Flamingo go from strength to strength. New recruits Matt Dixon, Nadia Pendleton and Ollie Young joined the team last year and now the 10-strong team has moved to new offices as they continue to grow.

“Our new recruits all have extensive real-world experience and that really helps to serve our ever-increasing client base sourcing and producing positive news stories which regularly achieve national coverage,” Nikki added.

Five-star hotel The Headland, also based in Newquay, is a client of almost three years and has enjoyed extensive coverage recently in the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Times, Coast Magazine and Woman & Home.

Flamingo also works closely with Sony Music to promote their hugely popular Christmas and Halloween Light Trails at iconic venues across the UK, while Blenheim Palace is another high-profile client with whom Nikki and her team have worked for almost a decade.
