A new crowdfunding campaign has launched looking to sprinkle a little bit of Christmas cheer.

Countdown Coins has been developed by working mums Kate Francis and Marion Harrison, as an alternative (or addition) to the traditional advent calendar.

It consists of 12 engraved coins, a wax-sealed letter from Father Christmas, and a special keepsake bag to collect coins in.

Each day a coin is ‘delivered by an elf’ for children to discover. Every coin represents a Christmas activity to help build up excitement for the big day.

Francis and Harrison have over ten years’ experience of creating some of the county’s most popular Father Christmas events. After a discussion about how families may not be able to see Father Christmas this year or do their usual Christmas activities, they decided to help bring some festive magic into people’s homes.

Francis explained: “We wanted to design something that was magical for children to discover but easy enough for parents to deliver.

“The festive season can be quite stressful for parents and we wanted to produce a product that was simple and inexpensive to do, but that created the maximum amount of Christmas cheer.”

During lockdown the pair met over Zoom and quickly grew the idea into a viable business plan. They have set up a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter looking to raise £6k to help bring the product to market in time for Christmas.
