Birthday candles twinkled amid the masts in a Penryn boatyard this week as marketing and design company Eight Wire celebrated its eighth anniversary.

The Eight Wire office

The Islington Wharf agency, which specialises in helping businesses in Cornwall reach their target markets, was founded in 2004 by graphic designer Sara Pugh and journalist Jamie Smith.

Since starting out as a two-person business, the agency has grown to a team of eight with expertise in a variety of design and marketing services suited to businesses of a wide range of sizes and styles.

Smith explained “Our growth has been helped in no small part by Cornwall’s network of business support agencies including Unlocking Cornish Potential, Partner to Succeed and Grow Cornwall which have each played their part in assisting our growth over the years and for that we are very thankful.”

“But the people we really have to thank are the businesses in Cornwall who have chosen us to help with, or manage, their marketing over the last eight years.

Bringing the team up to its current capacity, Eight Wire recently recruited Catherine Murray as the third graphic designer on its staff, which also includes two writers, a web developer, an account manager and an office manager.
