A businessman from Truro has been shortlisted to be part of the Torch Relay in the run up to next year’s Olympics.
MPAD managing director Mark Picken was nominated by the company’s graphic designer, Matt Hollands.
Picken, who has a one in 14 chance of carrying the torch, will find out in early December if he has been successful.
“It was a complete surprise when I received the email,” said Picken.
“I had no idea that Matt had nominated me, but it is something that I’d really love to do if I am lucky enough to be chosen.”
A panel of judges will whittle down the 28,000 nominations to 2,012 individuals who have the most inspirational stories of personal achievement and/or contribution to the local community.
They will then become part of the 8,000 torchbearers who will make up the Olympic Torch Relay carrying the torch around the country before the games in London start.
