An award-winning event management company has opened up applications for work experience (WEX) in Spring 2010.

Following over 40 placements during 2009, Truro-based Event Cornwall is looking for work experience candidates of all ages and experience to support its busy diary of events during the first half of 2010.

The company is co-ordinating Art in the City, a week-long visual arts festival funded by Totally Truro Business Improvement District and taking place in April.

Event Cornwall is also working with Cornwall Chamber of Commerce & Industry on events during Business Week in May, as well as their ongoing events with University College Falmouth and various corporate clients.

Claire Eason-Bassett, director of Event Cornwall, said: “We regularly receive CVs and applications for work experience, and we really value the input of WEX participants. We want to open up the recruitment of our WEX to the broadest audience.

“Candidates support us with everything from outlining planning of a project to managing the event on site and we encourage participants to really get involved. Feedback we’ve had from previous people is that it’s challenging but hugely exciting and fulfilling.”

Event Cornwall recruits for work experience over three seasons – Spring, Summer and Autumn, with specific events already planned in for 2010. The placements are tailored to each participant through training and activity designed to meet individual ambitions.

The team is looking for people with an interest in event management, particularly within the cultural sector, excellent communication skills, computer literacy and the ability to work to deadlines.

Candidates undergo an interview and if successful, are offered a placement. Placements are for a minimum of 3 days to a maximum of 3 weeks (or equivalent) and operate on a flexible basis to accommodate the needs of the event(s) and individual participants.

Applications for work experience open on December 14 2009, closing January 30, 2010. Shortlisting and interviews will take place by February 28, 2010.
