Celebrity Ruby Wax is headlining an international conference about mental health, work and wellbeing taking place in Cornwall today.

The American comedian has often spoken in public about her severe depression, and based a live show around it and recently launched an online social network, Black Dog Tribe, for people with depression.

The conference – 1 in 4 – has been organised by Cornwall Works 50+ and Cornwall Works 50+ Cares, with the help of Convergence investment. It is taking place at St Mellion International Resort, with more than 200 delegates including representatives from Sweden, France and Poland.

Carleen Kelemen, director of the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly said: “Each one of us will at some time have or be on the edge of mental health issues. But this does not mean that we should be written off.

“The focus of the ESF Convergence Investment is to find effective ways to help people gain confidence and enter the workplace. To have Ruby Wax as a speaker at this conference is a great way to underline that mental health issues could happen to anyone as well as the often vital links between work and mental wellbeing.”
