An online petition has been set up in support of proposals to establish a space science park at Goonhilly.
Rather than be allowed to become “a rusting memorial to old technology”, it is intended to refurbish the largest dishes for space science research and deep space communications.
The private company behind the scheme, Goonhilly Earth Station (GES) Ltd, also plans to redevelop the visitors centre and create an innovation centre to enable knowledge exchange between universities.
GES, which has applied for £6.85M from the Regional Growth Fund, claims that the scheme could help create 750 jobs over the next ten years, many local to the Goonhilly area.
