What is believed to be the first training programme in the UK specifically on international search engine optimisation (SEO) has been announced for Cornwall.

It forms part of the £2 million UKTI Globalisation Project, which has received ERDF Convergence investment and is designed to help businesses in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly trade internationally.

The workshop, which will be run by Rob Edlin of Niddocks Internet Marketing, will take place in Falmouth on August 3.

Edlin commented: “This is a real first for Cornwall. We do not know of any previous training for businesses anywhere in the UK that has focussed entirely on SEO for overseas markets. As search engines have become a more and more important factor in marketing effectiveness, we have seen many Cornish businesses gain skills in SEO. The next stage is to discover how to improve performance on search engines in international markets.”

Rory Uniacke, head of international trade for UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: “This valuable training opportunity has never before been available in Cornwall. This workshop will provide valuable insight and skills that will help set Cornish businesses firmly on the path to profitable overseas trade. In turn, this will lead to higher quality jobs and help boost prosperity in the county.”

Carleen Kelemen, director of the Convergence Partnership Office, added: “This is the first time there has been such intensive investment focussed on helping businesses trade overseas. The ERDF Convergence investment will help businesses discover how to enter world markets and build profitable international business.”

Businesses that are interested should email lenna.bithell@blpeninsula.co.uk to apply for a free place on the workshop.
