Robert O’Dowd has been appointed executive director of Dott Cornwall, a new design-orientated programme aimed at developing sustainable public sector projects.

O’Dowd previously worked on a similar programme in to the north east – Designs of the Time 2007. He has also been a director of Classic FM and chief executive of Real Health (UK).

O’Dowd says Dott Cornwall, which is being delivered by the Design Council, Cornwall County Council and University College Falmouth, will follow a similar format to Dott 07, although the range of projects will be different.

He commented: “In Cornwall, as in the north east, we will have public design commissions and skills sector programmes, and will look to share that knowledge with the community.

“As we are working closely with European-funded projects, the range of projects will be different, but the principles applied will be the same as in Dott 07.”

Projects confirmed so far include the Pengegon Community Centre in Pool, a public transport pathway in Camborne, Pool and Redruth, a sustainable building centre, and social enterprise centre.
