St Austell Brewery employees have raised £20k for charity by taking part in three sponsored walks during March – Walk All Over Cancer Month.

The ten-mile challenges – which happened in Bath, Exeter, and Cornwall – were arranged in memory of Jim Sloan, St Austell Brewery’s head of tenanted operations who passed away in 2022.

All the money raised has been equally split between two causes close to Jim’s heart, Cancer Research UK and Only a Pavement Away – a charity which works with people facing homelessness, prison leavers and veterans, to help place them into long -term, stable employment in hospitality.

Those who didn’t take part in the three walks set themselves a variety of individual challenges too – cycling, running, and rowing as many miles as possible.

Kevin Georgel, chief executive at St Austell Brewery, said: “It’s a proud feeling to see teams across our business come together to raise such an impressive total for two great causes, and in tribute to our dear friend Jim.

“Jim was held in the highest esteem across the pub industry and is sorely missed by all of us who knew and worked with him. It was our privilege to be joined by Jim’s family and friends on our final walk from Fowey to St Austell too, who raised a huge amount through their fundraising.”
