Cornwall Rural Community Charity (CRCC) is recruiting new trustees to strengthen its board as the Charity develops and implements its new growth strategy.

The charity recently celebrated its 76th anniversary of supporting communities in Cornwall through its committed team of staff and volunteers. It has revised its Articles of Association to enable the organisation to expand its work beyond Cornwall.

CRCC employs 68 people and delivers a diverse portfolio of projects including Cornwall Carers Service, Clean Cornwall, Learn Your Way – an education and training provision for 16–24-year-olds – and Fishing Animateur, a project that supports the fishing community nationally to access grant funding.

Katherine Nissen, chief executive, said: “We are looking for a range of people who have the time, energy and commitment to support the development of our charity.

“We would like to build a diverse board of trustees who can offer ideas, support, challenge and strategic direction as we continue to grow across Cornwall and beyond.”

The charity was first established in 1946 as part of a network of community councils in post-war Britain to support local parishes, playing fields and community halls.

It went on to deliver many transformative projects in Cornwall, from community buses to generating £1 million for village hall improvements under the National Lottery’s millennium funds.

Trustees would be expected to commit to quarterly board meetings held in Redruth, and in addition each Trustee will be a member of a Trustee/staff working group relevant to their expertise.

In particular, CRCC is looking for trustees with experience in the following disciplines:

  • People skills including HR, Disability, Inclusion and Discrimination
  • Knowledge of our work preferably through direct or indirect lived experience
  • Communications including PR/Social Media/Marketing.
