The international disaster relief charity, ShelterBox, has announced a new director for people.
The appointment of Ruth Evans comes at a decisive moment for the charity as it develops its new five-year strategy.
She joins ShelterBox from NHS England where she has led on development programmes, with a focus on leadership, culture change, and health and wellbeing.
The former Macmillan Nurse Specialist has spent more than 30 years in the NHS, both as a nurse and a human resources professional. This includes a significant period of time as Deputy Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.
Chief executive of ShelterBox, Sanj Srikanthan, said: “Having changed her focus from care of patients to care of colleagues, Ruth joins ShelterBox from her most recent role in NHS England where she has been supporting organisations to develop leadership capabilities for compassionate and inclusive cultures.
“Ruth is an experienced leader with a wholesome understanding of the challenges that come with balancing work and home life. Ruth brings with her a huge amount of knowledge not least around workforce engagement and the important role it has in making the workplace a brilliant place to be.
“We are excited to welcome Ruth to the team.”
ShelterBox, which provides emergency shelter and essential items to people who have lost their homes to disaster or conflict, has operational headquarters in Truro. It has affiliate teams in 14 countries across the world that help with international fundraising and volunteering.
ShelterBox’s latest response is to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. The charity has had teams in western Ukraine, Poland, and Moldova working closely with other organisations to ensure that together as many people as possible are helped. The charity is working with partners to get emergency aid to people still in Ukraine as well as those who have fled the country.
