Awenek Studio, a Community Interest Company (CIC) based on the Rame Peninsula, has been awarded a £33,280 grant by the National Lottery’s ‘Covid response’ fund.

The funding will enable Awenek to continue and further develop its Covid response which has been co-designed with community feedback.

Founder and director, Rosie French, explained: “The studio’s mission is to provide a welcoming, creative and safe space for local people and families, many of whom are isolated, lonely or on low incomes.

“Our studio brings out the inner creativity in anyone, no matter what age or background. From families with toddlers to elderly people, we bring people together to relax and enjoy activities such as art, crafts, pottery and jewellery-making.

“People come to Awenek Studio to make beautiful things but in doing so they connect with others, build their confidence, feel good and included.”

During the six months before the pandemic, Awenek helped 827 people through 91 creative workshops. This new grant will allow it to continue and develop its vital work.

This funding secures one full time role and creates an additional part-time role.
