Helford River Children’s Sailing Trust (HRCST) has announced the appointment of its first CEO.

Simon Osborne, who until recently was a director of Sea Kayaking Cornwall and Gylly Adventures, will take up the position in early July.

A well-known and talented kayaking sportsman, his list of achievements is long: he was the youngest person ever to achieve British Canoeing Level 5 Coach qualification; has competed in kayaking at an international level, appeared on BBC’s Coast television series and has also rowed 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean as part of a four-man team.

Charles Richardson, co-chair of the trust said: “This is a very exciting and challenging time for HRCST.

“Not only are we giving more children from local schools than ever before self-confidence and leadership skills by learning to sail on the river, but we have purchased and are in the process of developing Trevassack Lake on The Lizard as a state of the art learning centre for water-based activities aimed primarily at children with emotional, physical and educational needs and disabilities, to give children of all abilities the chance to access water sports.

“Simon’s appointment is a key plank in our plans to grow the trust. His water-based skills, enthusiasm for charitable activities and business competence will be key attributes in ensuring our success.”
